I’m Bored on the Weekends. What do I do in Boston?
There is no reason to be bored in Boston! BUT, if you are here is a list of fun things to do in this vibrant walkable city which is full of history, culture, and plenty of activities to keep you entertained day and night.
That’s right, take a long “history” walk on the Freedom Trail. This 2.5-mile trail will take you through 16 historic sites, from the Massachusetts State House to Paul Revere’s House. You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy this walk—there are plenty of cool spots to discover along the way, and it’s a great way to learn more about Boston's past while having fun.
2. Visit the Museum of Fine Arts
Do you like looking at art? Well if so, you will enjoy the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). It's filled with incredible exhibits ranging from ancient artifacts to contemporary art. If you go on a Friday night, you can check out “Art After Hours,” where there’s live music, food, and the chance to explore the galleries in a fun, relaxed setting.
3. Take a Trip to the Boston Common & Public Garden
The Boston Common is one of the oldest parks and is right next to the Public Gardens. It is perfect for hanging out, having a picnic, or just strolling around. You can also take a ride on the famous Swan Boats, which are a classic Boston experience or the Duck Boats which is also equally entertaining! Whether you’re chilling with friends or just looking for a peaceful place to read or reflect, the Common and Public Garden are prime spots to unwind, walk and enjoy the beautiful gardens too.
4. Catch a Game at Fenway Park
Take me out to the ballgame! Fenway Park is iconic! If you’re into sports, this is a must-do, whether it’s baseball season or not, you can grab some friends and take a tour of the park. It’s the home of the Boston Red Sox, and there’s always an electric vibe, especially if you’re lucky enough to catch a game. You can also grab a ballpark frank, some peanuts and cracker jack to really embrace the stadium vibe.
5. Check Out the New England Aquarium
Who doesn’t enjoy watching marine life swim around? The New England Aquarium is a perfect place to spend a few hours, from sea turtles to penguins and the massive IMAX theater, there’s a lot to see and do. Plus, you can check out the seals and sea lions outside the aquarium at the Harborwalk.
6. Get Your Thrills at Sky Zone Trampoline Park
Feeling energetic? Sky Zone Trampoline Park is the place to be! Whether you’re into dodgeball, jumping into foam pits, or just bouncing around, Sky Zone offers a great way to burn off some energy and have fun with your friends. It’s perfect for days when you want to do something active indoors.
There is nothing like walking down Newbury Street on a beautiful Saturday afternoon! Newbury Street is Boston’s go-to shopping destination, full of unique boutiques, brand-name stores, and plenty of cafes to stop for a treat. Whether you're in the mood for trendy fashion or want to browse through unique shops, Newbury Street is the perfect destination. Plus, it's a great place to meet up with friends or take in the Boston skyline.
8. Hit the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum
This interactive museum experience will transport you back in time to the Boston Tea Party of 1773. You'll get to throw tea into the harbor and relive one of the most important moments in American history. It's a unique and hands-on way to experience Boston's past, and it’s fun even if you're not a huge history fan.
9. Visit the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA)
How about modern art? If you’re into modern art, the ICA is a great spot to check out some cutting-edge exhibits. Located on the waterfront, the museum has an ever-changing collection of art, from paintings to sculptures to film screenings. The building itself is super cool, and the views of the harbor make it a nice place to relax after checking out the exhibits.
10. Go Bowling at Kings Dining & Entertainment
Sometimes, you just want to do something chill with your friends. Kings Dining & Entertainment offers a cool bowling alley experience, with retro-style lanes and an arcade. You can also enjoy food, drinks, and even some karaoke while you're there. It’s the perfect hangout spot for an afternoon of fun and friendly competition.
